What will this course cover?
 
The Gamebryo training course will take game programmers and artists from basics to advanced concepts and techniques using separate tracks.
 

Engineering Track (3 Days)

Day 1:  Programming and Gamebryo, The Basics

On day 1, the primary objective is to help game developers make the best possible use of the core Gamebryo libraries, including:

  • Gamebryo Fundamentals
  • Scene Graph Overview
  • Rendering
  • Application Framework
  • Performance Tuning
  • Materials and Shaders

Day 2:  Advanced Programming and Tool Pipeline Customization

On the second day, we dive into the details and enable developers to customize the engine and tools for your particular game.  Topics will vary based on the interest of the participants, but will include:

  • Threading and Floodgate
  • Physics
  • Animation
  • Scripting
  • Terrain
  • Scene Designer plugins
  • Max/Maya/XSI  plugins

Day 3: Game Architecture and Console Issues

The final day will take a look at the Gamebryo entity system, game architectures that build well on Gamebryo’s foundation, and console-specific features.

Artist Track (2 Days)

Day 1:  Art and Gamebryo: The Basics

The first day of training helps you understand how your art works in Gamebryo. Topics include:

  • Gamebryo Fundamentals
  • Scene Graph Overview
  • Rendering
  • Application Framework
  • Performance Tuning
  • Materials and Shaders

Day 2:  Art and Tool Use

On day 2, get an in-depth look at various Gamebryo features and learn more about:

  • Material model
  • Exporters
  • Advanced exporting
  • Advanced Transparency and Materials
  • Scene Designer and Terrain

Day 3:  Optional: Joining Engineering Track

Interested artists are welcome to attend the engineering track if they have some technical background.
