Integrated with Gamebryo’s Scene Designer, the Emergent Terrain System consists of an editor and a run-time, plus tools for sculpting, texturing and object placement, as well as, standard lighting and water features. As with other Gamebryo features, the Terrain run-time is a cross-platform solution that supports game programming for PC(including D3D 10), PS3, and Xbox 360. With Gamebryo 2.6, the Terrain run-time now also supports projects for NintendoWii.
Rapid Prototyping for Game Artists
Emergent Terrain helps artists design and build worlds. The Terrain Editor is a WYSIWYG plug-in to Gamebryo Scene Designer that allows artists to create and view their game landscapes without requiring programmer assistance.
Emergent Terrain offers integration to the popular IDV SpeedTree package (requires separate SpeedTree licensing) so generating trees and plants is a snap, with over 1,000 tree models and 2,250 premium textures.
Simple Implementation for Game Programmers
Emergent Terrain includes level-of-detail, texturing, decals and terrain metadata to make implementation easy. With Gamebryo 2.6, you also get out-of-the-box integration with the NVIDIA PhysX physics engine, to add realistic movement, water, and light effects.
Increased Performance with Gamebryo 2.6
The Terrain runtime leverages the redesigned geometry system first available with Gamebryo 2.5, for even faster data loading, improved geometry streams and flexible geometry data sharing. The Terrain run-time also takes advantage of Emergent’s Floodgate stream processing engine for efficient utilization of multi-core architectures.
Define New Worlds with Emergent Terrain System
With the Emergent Terrain System, your artists can create:
-
Lifelike vegetation and decorations. Create and place vegetation and other decoration meshes, add terrain decals, or take advantage of the built-in SpeedTree integration for quick generation of terrain objects. Includes algorithmic terrain generation based on ecosystem and terrain metadata.
-
Flexible sculpting and modeling. Modify the terrain using realistic WYSIWYG tools for “painting” textures on the terrain geometry, adjusting elevations within the scene, placing water basins, smoothing, flattening, and adding random noise to selected regions, with modifiable falloff radii.
-
Lighting and shadows. Standard lighting and shadowing features are included to create dramatic or subtle moods in your scene.
-
Water. Define water basins and add rectangular regions of water to your terrain, with basic water shader support.
-
Collison. Terrain/object collision detection provided with integration to Gamebryo’s collision system.
-
Import external terrain data. Height-map data from third-party tools such as Bryce, Terragen and Photoshop can be imported through standard image file formats (BMP, PNG, etc.)
Emergent Terrain is a true cross-platform game programming tool that can flexibly fit into your game development environment.
