Emergent Partner Program: RAD Game Tools: Bink Video & Miles Sound System
Bink Video is our ubiquitous video codec. It is super, super fast, uses massively less memory than other codecs, and is optimized for each platform specifically. Bink includes a great audio codec with multi-channel and multi-language support. Bink is available for all game platforms.
The Miles Sound System has been used in games since 1991! It handles all aspects of sound – ultichannel digital audio mixing, audio decompression (ADPCM, Ogg, MP3), 3D spatialization, voice chat, MIDI with DLS, and much more. Miles is available for all game platforms.
RAD Game Tools features include:
- Simple and Powerful.
- Using Bink is like using a codec that you wrote yourself. Your game is always in control – there are no callbacks or other difficult-to-debug constructs.
- Miles has been refined over 15 years of development. Most game developers directly use the Miles API because it is so clean – they don’t even bother wrapping it!
- Super, Super Fast.
- In some cases, Bink is up to 10 times faster than other modern codecs. It’s fast enough to use for in-game videos, as well as cut-scene videos.
- Miles contains optimized code by some ot the best optimizers in the business (Mike Abrash, Terje Matheson, Jeff Roberts and John Miles).
- Uses as Little Memory as Possible.
- In some cases, Bink ises up to 16 MB less than other codecs. You don’t have to worry about a simple video codec hogging all your memory.
- Miles decodes all compressed data on-the-fly, so your sound footprint will drop in size drastically.
RAD Game Tools integrates easily into Gamebryo LightSpeed. The integration was developed and certified by Emergent engineers. Miles Sound System and Bink Video integrations are included with the main Gamebryo distribution.
