Emergent Earns Spot as Top-Tier Provider of Console Middleware
SAN FRANCISCO – Maker of the award-winning Gamebryo video game development platform Emergent Game Technologies, from the 2008 Game Developers Conference (GDC), reports its best year yet in 2007 with a 67 percent increase in sales from 2006. Overseas sales of Gamebryo far exceeded the company’s expectations, with 63 percent growth in Europe and a 51 percent increase within the Asian markets of China, Japan and Korea, where Emergent holds a 65 percent market share.
Heading into 2008, Emergent forecasts significant growth in Gamebryo sales for console game development. The company is already off to a strong start. Companies such as Sony Online Entertainment, Sidhe Interactive, Biodroid and Winking Entertainment and many other unannounced titles are developing a range of titles for the PLAYSTATION®3 the Xbox 360® from Microsoft® and the Nintendo Wii™.
A key feature in Gamebryo that continues to attract console game developers is FloodgateTM, an unequaled stream processing engine designed to squeeze the most power from every core on a multi-core console, maximizing multi-threading. Floodgate enables studios to quickly and easily take advantage of the processor and memory configurations in their console development platforms. Games launching mid-year will showcase how Floodgate has helped developers manage multiple program threads running simultaneously within multi-core consoles environments.
Genre expansion was also a key area of growth for Emergent in 2007. Gamebryo is now being used in 13 different genres including MMOs, role playing games, action and combat, first person shooters, casual online games and puzzle/strategy titles. To date, 200 games built on Gamebryo have shipped, with more than 60 in development by studios worldwide.
“As a company focused on being of service to the industry, we’ve aligned our business with the needs of our customer base. Our success over the past year and feedback from customers have strongly informed and influenced our business roadmap,” said Geoffrey Selzer, CEO of Emergent. “We’ve

redoubled our efforts in engineering our flexible, modular game development framework to solve some of the industry’s most vexing problems, including multi-core development and distributed work flow. We’re seeing solid indicators, such as our strong sales growth, that our commitment to a world-class level of service and support across all platforms is the right focus for today and for development on the future generation of game platforms.”
Industry leaders are increasingly aligning themselves with Emergent’s Gamebryo development platform. Under the newly formed Emergent Partner Program, AGEIA, Audiokinetic®, Scaleform® and Interactive Data Visualization (SpeedTree®) will be integrated into Gamebryo. As more partners sign on, Emergent aims to create the broadest range of game production solutions and design tools available from one source.
To live up to Emergent’s world-class standards and best serve the inherent needs of the game development industry, Emergent is redirecting resources from the Metrics Element and The Emergent Platform to accelerate the development and expansion of Gamebryo. The company is confident that the technology developed on these projects will be beneficial to its overall business in the long run.
