Gamebryo LightSpeed’s flexibility and rapid iteration capabilities make it a top choice for a variety of 3D visual game development projects. For years Gamebryo has used by game developers and programmers throughout the simulation and training industry and now Gamebryo LightSpeed continues the tradition of being the top technology choice for serious games.
Perfect Framework for Serious Game Development
Gamebryo LightSpeed is built on top of Gamebryo, the multiplatform engine and foundational technology with more than 300 game productions worldwide across every genre. Flexibility and modularity allow Gamebryo to work across various types of simulations including military training in a virtual flight deck and a sea exploration simulator used to distract children while undergoing medical treatment. These projects are integral parts of our lives and crucial to our government entities.
The foundational technology is key to the success of these important and beneficial projects. Gamebryo provides the solid foundation for serious game designers and simulation developers, but the addition of LightSpeed it gives deveopers the ability to streamline the creation of worlds with rapid iteration capabilities and real-time updates. LightSpeed also helps developers create prototypesquickly and easily - even allowing you develop for your prototype to move directly into your final product.
How Gamebryo LightSpeed Helps You Build Your Simulation
Terrain System
LightSpeed’s cross-platform Terrain System is integrated with the runtime. It includes complete support from the tool chain and is complemented by a WSIWYG Terrain Editor. Features of the Terrain System include:
- Dynamic LOD: The terrain runtime adds detail when closeup terrain patches are rendered, and removes detail when far-away terrain patches are rendered. Normal maps for distant terrain are automatically generated from the height map.
- Materials support several features such as base, detail, specular, normal, and parallax mapping. A terrain is not limited in the total unique texture count, and at any area 4 materials can be blended with a control mask and distribution textures to add fine detail. Shadows are also supported, and the resulting automatically generated shaders are optimized.
- Meta-Data: Arbitrary meta-data can be associated with layers on the terrain and queried at runtime to drive game logic such as path finding, audio changes, foliage types, or anything else a developer dreams up.
- Collision Detection: The Terrain System is integrated with LightSpeed’s collision detection system, so game objects can realistically interact with (and even deform) the terrain.
- IDV SpeedTree Integration: The optional LightSpeed integration with IDV SpeedTree is fully compatible with the Terrain System, so SpeedTree trees can be interactively placed on the terrain.
The Terrain Editor allows teams to sculpt game terrains interactively or to import height fields generated by other applications. Terrain texturing, painting and decal tools enable teams to build materials in layers in order to quickly generate extensive visual variations.
Rendering
Powerful simulations need engaging and relevant graphics. LightSpeed's renderers are known for their flexibility and modular design and have been used to create stunning visual effects. Highlinghts of LightSpeed's rendering include:
- True Flexibility and Control
- Flexible Geometry System
- Variety of Effects
- Adaptable Shadowing System
- Data-Driven Shader Systems
- Powerful Animation System
World Class Code
All code in LightSpeed is easy to read with a clean architecture. Accompanying the code are thousands of pages of easily readable, fully indexed, and thoughtfully hyperlinked documentation, as well as dozens of samples for both programmers and artists. The component-based architecture of Gamebryo lends itself to easy modification, extension, and refactoring to meet the needs of your particular genre and complexity of game. Gamebryo’s Partner Program already sets the stage to work with many different technologies, but you can easily integrate any technology you need with LightSpeed.
Professional Support for Serious Game Developers
Emergent Support is an expert team of engineers positioned to assist customers' internal game development teams so they can focus on the projectat hand, not on getting the middleware to work. Our team is hand-picked and has experience in writing code, developing our product features and developing games. Each member of the support team has at least a year of hands-on engineering experience using both Gamebryo LightSpeed and Gamebryo.
Visual Simulation and Serious Game Clients
Emergent’s technology has been used to build entertaining games, but it can help you develop your training simulation or serious game project to a higher standard and deliver a finished product faster and more cost-effectively. Our technology has been used to develop numerous serious games and simulations, including:
- Military training simulators
- Government and military training programs
