Emergent’s Gamebryo Gains Ground on PLAYSTATION®3 Developer Network

Emergent’s Gamebryo Gains Ground on PLAYSTATION®3 Developer Network

March 12, 2008

CALABASAS, Calif. (March 12, 2008) – Emergent Game Technologies today announced that more than 50 PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3™) game development studios have downloaded Gamebryo since its debut on PS3™ Developer Network (PS3 DevNet) on February 17.  The Gamebryo game development platform is downloadable in its full version for evaluation, prototyping and game creation.

Gamebryo features Emergent’s Floodgate stream processing engine, which allows game developers to easily distribute data and computation-intensive tasks, such as particle systems and physics, across the multiple Synergistic Processor Units (SPUs) of  the PS3. Floodgate, along with other advanced tools and technologies in Gamebryo, will help PS3 game developers fully maximize the power of Cell Broadband Engine™ (Cell/B.E.) of  PS3 – one of the most advanced processors in the world.  Already more than 90 game developers and educational facilities worldwide are using Floodgate.

“Emergent has done some real breakthrough work in creating technology that streamlines development, supports multiple genres and puts creative control back into the hands of  PS3 development teams,” said Geoffrey Selzer, CEO of Emergent.  “Gamebryo represents a refreshing, new approach to game development – one that brings to bear a flexible, modular, foundational platform that easily integrates with a studio’s proprietary technology, is consistent with current game developers’ workflow, and maximizes SPUs of  PS3.  This empowers game developers to make their own creative mark with each title in any genre.”

Upon completing the Gamebryo download, PS3 game developers will have immediate access to the Emergent technical support team, which has representatives located in North America, Europe and Asia.
